Literacy Empowerment for Academic Proficiency

About the L.E.A.P. Program

The Bahamas has a functional literacy problem. Functional literacy is the level of literacy which includes not only reading and writing but also numeracy skills that would help people cope with the daily demands of life and contribute to their community’s development.

Contributing to low functional literacy is the high rate of school dropouts. Research reveals that each year, 3 in every 6.  or approximately two thousand (2,000) 12th graders, do not complete high school each year. This number is not inclusive of the number of children that drop out of school prior to their senior year in high school.

The primary purpose of the I Say Yes LEAP initiative is to increase the rate of high school graduation in the Bahamas from 50% to 100% in 10 years by designing and deploying high quality, low cost, replicable interventions that address functional literacy gaps in the delivery of education through the Bahamas government and private school systems.

Our Vision is a Bahamas with 100% high school graduation rate and 100% socially rounded students.
